CELA Testing at Aurora Hills
will be Jan. 4 – Feb. 2
CELA Testing Information
The Colorado Department of Education has identified content standards in English proficiency for English Language Learners. Fed and State legislation have mandated a new English proficiency eral test, the CELA (Colorado English Language Assessment), to assess these standards. All kindergarten through twelfth grade students who have been identified as having a language background other than English in the state of Colorado will participate in a statewide assessment in the areas of English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
The CELA testing window is January 4 – February 2, 2010. All ELL students, K-12, designated as English Language Learners will be assessed using CELA. This information will assist Colorado school districts recommending the placement of your student in the appropriate educational environment for optimal learning in English. The CELA test results are very important and will be used to determine placement for ELL students in their classes. The expectation is for all ELL students to show progress in learning the English language, and become proficient in English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) in an academic setting.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Miller, Coordinator of the English as a Second Language Program at AurorHills or Mrs. Wagoner, Assistant Principal.
