Individual Career and Academic Plan

(ICAP)

What is ICAP?

ICAP stands for Individual Career and Academic Plan. In 2009, the state of Colorado passed legislation that is designed to aid in student development of post-secondary plans. The purpose of the ICAP is to help students discover their interests, plan intentionally and build pathways to success for life after high school.

How is ICAP completed?

Aurora Public Schools uses a computer program called Naviance to store student ICAPs. Students and families can access Naviance from anywhere at: https://connection.naviance.com/aurorahills.

Each student in the district has a Naviance account. To login, students use their student ID number as the username, and their 6-digit birthday as the password (no dashes or slashes).

Once logged into Naviance, students have access to a number of resources. Students can write goals, explore careers, explore colleges, take interest inventories, and store different information about their future plans. Students will have access to this information through high school.

How can I support my student with their ICAP?

One of the best ways to support your student’s ICAP development is to have continuous, open conversations about future plans. Some suggestions include:

  • Ask your student what their academic and personal goals are and how they plan to achieve them.
  • Encourage your student to explore their interests by taking the career interest inventories in Naviance and research different careers that fit their personality type.
  • Have conversations and do research with your student in Naviance about different colleges they may be interested in after high school.

The planning for your student’s future can never start too soon.
