As counselors, we create a safe place for students to seek support by providing individual, group and classroom guidance to all students in the academic, career, and personal/social domains to foster independence that will further their achievement in all areas.
At each grade level we will be focusing on:
6th grade- At Aurora Hills, 6th graders develop a wide range of coping strategies designed to manage big emotions and reframe unhelpful thoughts. 6th graders will cultivate skills necessary to form healthy relationships, resolve conflict peacefully, and take the perspective of others. Staff and students work collaboratively to develop these essential social-emotional skills and build a strong sense of community within the classroom.
7th grade- In 7th grade students utilize the growth mindset and set goals around social emotional learning and academic achievement. In addition, Aurora Hills students recognize signs of bullying and harassment, the impact it has on the school and students’ responsibilities to create a harassment free environment. Seventh graders also learn about how thoughts and emotions affect decisions in the context of managing relationships and social conflict.
8th grade-8th grade students at Aurora Hills will continue learning how to use a growth mindset to become resilient individuals and understand how internal and external factors influence their mental and emotional health. Students will learn self-management skills to help them better manage stress, develop positive relationships, and expand effective ways of conflict resolution. By the end of 8th grade, students will have gained knowledge in the importance of values, perspective-taking, and communication to prepare them for academic success in high school and beyond.
