English Language Development

English Language Support for Non-native Speakers

English Language Development (ELD) supports students that have a language other than English spoken at home. For beginning English learners, students learn social language and foundational literacy skills in English. Intermediate students continue to develop their academic English, focusing on skills in reading, writing, and speaking that transfer to other academic areas. Advanced students are close to native-English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Those students primarily focus on academic language in reading and writing to support the work in their other classes.
